What is Joshua's Law?
Joshua's Law is a law having new teen driving requirements for all 16 year olds appling for a Class D drivers license. The requirments are effective January 1, 2007. The purpose of Joshua's Law is to reduce property damage, accidents, injuries and fatilities in this high-risk age group.
Why should I enroll in Safety 1st Drivers Education?
Safety 1st Drivers Education is a structured, private program. Instructors are there to assist student drivers as they develop safe driving skills. The skills are the necessary foundation for a life-time of safe driving.
Does Safety 1st Drivers Education meet the requirments of Joshua's Law?
Yes, Safety 1st Driver Education is licensed by the Georgia Department of Driver Services and teaches a 30 hour classroom program with an additional 6 hours behind the wheel training with a qualified instructor.
What program do you teach?
Safety 1st Drivers Education uses the Drive Right 10th Edition for the purpose of assisting students in meeting the requirements for obtaining a Class D provisional license. Many high schools across Georgia use this curriculum.
What does the classroom training consist of?
The classroom training consists of utilizing the IPDE Process, the Smith System of driving, Zone Control, Safety at Intersections, Handling Emergencies and more. These procedures are then reinforced in the behind the wheel training.
What does the Behind-the-Wheel Training consist of?
The behind the wheel training consists of establishing Oderly Visual Search Patters, Changing Lanes, Hand-Over-Hand Steering, Perpeniculat Parking, Parallel Parking and some Interstate Driving.
What if I don't complete Drivers Education at age 16?
If you do not complete an approved drivers education program, you will have to wait until age 17 to obtain a class D license.
How would I get an insurance discount?
A certificate of completion is issued after a student successfully completes the drivers education program consisting of 30 hours of classroom training and 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction.
Is there any other discount I will be eligible for once I complete the program?
Yes, parents or guardians are eligible for a tax credit of $150.00 if their dependent minor child successfully completes a course through a private driver education school that is licensed with DDS. A copy of the Certificate of Completion and proof of the fees paid for the course will be required to qualify for the credit.
